NAHNS national Convention – tours

This years convention has several key tours for tourists to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.  The Convention registration fee of $175 per registrant includes a pass on all tours and activities for the convention.

Local Holy Name Society members and their friends and family members can take part in the tours by purchasing tickets to individual tours and activities.  The fees for each tour and activity are included with the description of the event.

Thursday, September 25 - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Tour: Mall of America Shopping Excursion

The group will travel via Light Rail Train (LRT) from downtown Minneapolis to the Mall of America. Visitors will take in the shops, sites, sounds, and tastes of the mall at their leisure. Shoppers will return to downtown Minneapolis in the afternoon via the LRT. There is no cost for this event.

Thursday, Sept. 25, 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

Tour:  Riverboat Cruise & Dinner on the Mississippi River. 

A tranquil and beautiful three hour dinner tour by boat of the upper Mississippi River departing from and returning to Boom Island in Minneapolis. The cruise travels along the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway and Heritage Trail, past Nicollet Island and through the lock at historic St. Anthony Falls. After locking through, the ship cruises under the Stone Arch Bridge and by Mill City Museum and Mill Ruins Park. Cost for this event is $50 per person for individuals not registered for the convention.

Friday, Sept. 26, 3:30 to 6:00 PM

Tour:  St. Paul Domes and Homes Tour 

St. Paul Cathedral
James J. Hill Historic House
Grand Ole Creamery
Summit Avenue - St. Paul

The group will travel via motor coach east from downtown Minneapolis to see the domes and homes of Minnesota’s capital city, St. Paul. The bus will pass close by the state capital en route to the first tour stop which is the St. Paul Cathedral. A guided tour of the Cathedral helps point out the history and beauty of this Church.

Next stop, across the parking lot for a guided tour of the James J. Hill house. Learn the history of the Guilded Age mansion, the man who built it, and its historic connection to the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The route back to Minneapolis will start down historic Summit Avenue in St. Paul, catching a glimps of many mansions built in the 1890 to 1920 era. A refreshing stop at a St. Paul neighborhood ice cream shop will complete this tour. Cost for this event is $20 per person for individuals not registered for the convention.

Friday, Sept. 26, 7:00 to 9:00 PM

Presidents Reception and Convention Banquet 
The evening schedule starts with the president’s reception followed by a wonderful dinner. You will hear talks by Bishop Burbidge and Bishop Flynn. They will share their insights on spirituality and the Holy Name Society at different points throughout the evening. National and archdiocesan awards will be given. Cost for this event is only $35 per person for individuals not registered for the convention.

Saturday, Sept. 27, 9:00 to 11:00 AM

Tour: Mill City Tour

This tour starts with a drive through Minneapolis past the Mary Tyler Moore statue to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Pictures may be taken with the famous spoon bridge and cherry. Next stop is a tour of the Basilica of St. Mary. The final stop on this tour of Minneapolis is the Mill City Museum, a former flour mill on the banks of the Mississippi River now serving as a historical, educational, and entertainment venue. Cost for this tour is $20 per person for individuals not registered for the convention.
