NAHNS national Convention – Agenda

Convention Theme: Proclaim the Name of the Lord

The theme selected for the 2008 national convention is Proclaim the Name of the Lord. Each of the major words in the theme is a foundational building block for Holy Name Society activities.

Proclaim – A verb meaning to announce or declare, to make known publicly or openly, to extol or praise publicly.

Name - A word by which a person is known, a title applied descriptively in honor, a distinguished, honored or great reputation, a symbol or vehicle of divinity, to speak of.
The Lord - The only Son of God, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The theme represents what the Holy Name Society does through thought, word and action. The convention will help all attendees become more effective as a person, and as a parish, diocese and nationwide Holy Name Society to Proclaim the Name of the Lord.

Proclaim the Name of the Lord Apologetics Conference: Open to the public

Swear to God: The Promise and Power of the Sacraments,  join Catholic theologian and best-selling author Dr. Scott Hahn as he recounts his personal adventure of discovery that will make the familiar topic of the Sacraments seem brand new. As you share his journey from a simply symbolic Protestant understanding of the Sacraments to the traditional teaching of the Fathers of the Church, you'll discover new insights into the Sacraments that will inspire, enlighten and inform you as never before - even if you're a lifelong Catholic!

You'll learn how the Catholic understanding of a Sacrament is based on the Biblical concept of swearing an oath (Sacramentum in Latin). And how, in Biblical times, parties to covenants would swear a sacred oath, offer a sacrifice and share a meal, all elements contained in the Catholic Sacraments today. Dr. Hahn demonstrates that the Sacraments are solidly based in Scripture and how they have always been a crucial part of the belief and practice of the Church. Far from later additions to Christian worship as some Protestants claim.

This conference is open to all!  Attendance at this very special conference is included in the registration fee for National Members of the Holy Name Society.

Sunday, September 28, 2008
Continental breakfast at hotel
General sessions if necessary at St. Olaf
